Current versus historical recalls
RecallCheck uses the lifecycle information available in each official source to separate records that appear actionable from records identified as closed or terminated.
Current or actionable
A record is shown as current when the normalized source data indicates an active, open, ongoing, or current notice. USDA FSIS active-notice fields are also considered when available.
Closed or terminated
Records identified as closed or terminated are treated as historical context. A historical barcode or product similarity is not promoted as confirmation of a current recall.
Unknown status
If the source record does not provide enough information to determine lifecycle reliably, RecallCheck keeps the status unknown rather than assuming the recall is active. An exact barcode match with uncertain lifecycle should be reviewed against the official notice.
