Privacy
Designed to minimize what leaves your device.
RecallCheck does not require an account and does not use advertising trackers. Some product-identification requests use Open Food Facts, while recall records are served by RecallCheck for comparison in your browser.
Camera and barcode scanning
Camera frames used to scan a barcode stay on your device and are not uploaded by RecallCheck. A scanned or manually entered barcode may be sent to Open Food Facts to identify the product. RecallCheck then compares the barcode and related product information with its available FDA and USDA recall dataset.
Recent checks on this device
RecallCheck can save up to six recent checks in your browser's local storage so you can quickly check a product again. Those records stay in this browser on this device and are not sent to ITSBAD Labs. You can clear them from the Recent checks section.
Recent-check entries may include the product name, barcode, result label, result heading, and the time of the check. Clearing browser storage can also remove them.
To make product identification more reliable when Open Food Facts temporarily does not return a product it identified earlier, RecallCheck may also keep up to 40 successful product identity records in local storage for up to 30 days. This cache stays on this device, is not sent to ITSBAD Labs, and is cleared when you use Clear in Recent checks.
Feedback
When local feedback controls are available, RecallCheck can save a limited feedback record in this browser. The current implementation stores feedback locally rather than sending it to ITSBAD Labs. Product and package identifiers are not intentionally transmitted through this feedback feature.
Third-party services
Product identification may use Open Food Facts. Links to official recall notices may take you to FDA or USDA websites. Those services have their own privacy practices and policies.
RecallCheck is intentionally usable without creating a profile, signing in, or providing your name or email address.
