RecallCheck
How RecallCheck works
Scan or enter a barcode. RecallCheck checks current recall records and tells you when package details still need to be verified.
- 1
Scan or enter the barcode
Use the barcode printed on the package. If you do not have the package, search by product or brand instead.
- 2
Check the records
The barcode is checked against available FDA and USDA FSIS recall records.
- 3
Verify your package
Some recalls affect only certain lots, dates, sizes, or production codes. When they matter, compare those details with the official notice.
What each result means
Recall found
A current recall match was found. Follow the result instructions and check your package against the official notice.
Check your package
A recall may apply, but a lot number, date, size, establishment number, or another package detail still needs to be checked.
No current recall match found
The barcode was not found in the current records checked. This does not guarantee that the product is safe.
Older recall found
The product or barcode appears in a recall listed as closed or terminated. If the package is older, compare it with the historical notice.
Why a barcode is not always enough
A barcode usually identifies a product, not a specific production lot. A recall may apply only to packages made on certain dates or at a specific facility. When that happens, the package details determine whether the recall applies.
If RecallCheck finds a relevant recall, use the linked FDA or USDA notice for final package details and instructions.
