Why a barcode may not be enough
A UPC or GTIN usually identifies a product, not a specific production run. Recalled and unaffected packages can therefore share the same barcode.
RecallCheck checks exact and equivalent barcode identifiers when they are available in an official record. If the notice also lists a lot code, date code, package size, USDA establishment number, or other package-specific restriction, those details still need to be compared before you can determine whether that package is included.
What RecallCheck does with a barcode match
If the barcode matches but required package details remain unresolved, RecallCheck should ask you to verify those details rather than declaring the package recalled. If no barcode is published in the official record, RecallCheck may use corroborating product information to guide manual review, but similarity alone is not confirmation.
